CHALLENGES

The Chaplaincy currently faces the following the Challenges:
1. The absence of a definite place of worship due to lack of accommodation in the university. This problem has become acute because of inadequate lecture halls, hostels and residential accommodation for staff. The lecture halls, hostels and residential accommodation for staff. The Chaplaincy has no choice but to conduct Sunday service and weekday masses in the pre-degree hall or forced to move to any available space when the pre-degree hall is not available for use or worship under make-shift canopies.
2. The construction work at the church building at the permanent site, after the foundation laying ceremony by the Bishop in 2014, has remained at the foundation level due to lack of funds. The seating capacity is 3000, while the estimated cost of the project is N500, 000,000 (Five Hundred Million Naira) which is beyond the scope of the worshipping community comprising mostly of students and staff. Urgent assistance is therefore required to complete this project and provide a befitting place of worship.
3. Moreover, it will help to rekindle the and faith of the congregation in the worship of the almighty God.
4. Individuals and persons displaced from the surrounding communities near Wukari as a result of several crises over the years, have always looked up to the Chaplaincy as a safe place of worship but have become disillusioned because of the absence of a permanent place of worship and the slow pace of work on the church building.
5. The sustained efforts of the Chaplain through Catechism classes, evangelism and pastoral advocacy has begun to yield enormous fruits as some students have indicated interest to go into priestly vocation and other religious life. This positive effort is being hampered by the absence of a befitting place of worship and a conducive environment for counselling of these young minds.
6. The Chaplaincy also requires a functional vehicle, preferably a bus to facilitate evangelical work, assist faithful in conducting religious activities outside of the university and to attend to emergencies.
In the light of the foregoing, the chaplaincy had often resorted to launching and making appeals to individuals and organisations without any tangible response.
